Well I thought I would start a discussion thread to get some wheels rolling here....so here it goes. Although this isn't so much domestic vs import you definitely see domestics with mostly rear wheel drive while the majority of high performance imports have awd configurations. While the two both have their advantages and disadvantages and are designed with different objectives in mind, which do you prefer? I like RWD simply cause its always fun to slide the rear end around, however from a performance standpoint I can get behind AWD simply because of the increased handling and launching abilites, despite the increased parasitic loss through the transfer case and from what I've heard overall pain the the ass to work on. But which one would you choose and why, not necessarily only from a performance standpoint?

For a DD i would have to choose an AWD car simply because of the fact that we get a lot of snow up here, but for a summer driver i'd probably choose a RWD car because i've just always liked them better.

I pretty much share your opinion Rice, RWD is far more fun to drive do to whippin the the rear end around, burnouts, etc. The AWD's are better when it comes to handling and initially better with launching with drag racing but a RWD with good slicks and setup for weight transfer will launch just as well.
So for a DD RWD all the way, for autox or track duty AWD

Im hands down AWD. I love the handling and being able to stick goin around really sharp turns and just overall traction.
